Santa Clause 'n Grandma

Santa Clause 'n Grandma - THE BEST SANTA CLAUSE STORY I'VE EVER HEARD!!

Old but good! My all time favorite:

I love this story and hope you will too. Best Wishes for a Merry Christmas.

I remember my first Christmas adventure with Grandma..

I was just a kid. I remember tearing across town on my bike to visit her. On the way, my big sister dropped the bomb: "There is no Santa Claus," she jeered. "Even dummies know that!"

My Grandma was not the gushy kind, never had been. I fled to her that day because I knew she would be straight with me. I knew Grandma always told the truth, and I knew that the truth always went down a whole lot easier when swallowed with one of her "world-famous" cinnamon buns. I knew they were world-famous, because Grandma said so. It had to be true.

Grandma was home, and the buns were still warm. Between bites, I told her everything. She was ready for me..

"No Santa Claus?" she snorted..."Ridiculous! Don't you believe it! That rumor has been going around for years, and it makes me mad, plain mad!! Now, put on your coat, and let's go."

"Go? Go where Grandma"I asked. I hadn't even finished my 2nd world famous cinnamon bun..

"Where" turned out to be Kerby's General Store, the one store in town that had a little bit of just about everything. As we walked through its doors, Grandma handed me ten dollars. That was a bundle in those days.

"Take this money," she said, "and buy something for someone who needs it I'll wait for you in the car." Then she turned and walked out of Kerby's. I was only eight years old. I'd often gone shopping with my mother, but never had I shopped for anything all by myself.

The store seemed big and crowded, full of people scrambling to finish their Christmas shopping. For a few moments I just stood there, confused, clutching that ten-dollar bill, wondering what to buy, and who on earth to buy it for..I thought of everybody I knew: my family, my friends, my neighbors, the kids at school, the people who went to my church.

I was just about thought out, when I suddenly thought of Bobby Decker. He was a kid with bad breath and messy hair, and he sat right behind me in Mrs. Pollock's grade-two class.

Bobby Decker didn't have a coat. I knew that because he never went out at recess during the cold weather. His mother always wrote a note telling the teacher that he had a bad cough but all us kids knew Bobby Decker didn't have a cough, he didn't have a good coat.

I fingered the ten-dollar bill with growing excitement. I would buy Bobby Decker a coat! I settled on a red corduroy one that had a hood to it. It looked real warm, and he would like that.

"Is this a Christmas present for someone?" the lady behind the counter asked kindly, as I laid my ten dollars down.

"Yes ma'am," I replied shyly. "It's for Bobby." The nice lady smiled at me, as I told her about how Bobby really needed a good winter coat. I didn't get any change, but she put the coat in a bag, smiled again, and wished me a Merry Christmas.

That evening, Grandma helped me wrap the coat (a little tag fell out of the coat, and Grandma tucked it in her Bible)in Christmas paper and ribbons and wrote, "To Bobby, From Santa Claus" on it....Grandma said that Santa always insisted on secrecy.

Then she drove me over to Bobby Decker's house, explaining as we went that I was now and forever officially, one of Santa's helpers.

Grandma parked down the street from Bobby's house, and she and I crept noiselessly and hid in the bushes by his front walk. Then Grandma gave me a nudge. "All right, Santa Claus," she whispered, "get going."

I took a deep breath, dashed for his front door, threw the present down on his step, pounded his door and flew back to the safety of the bushes and Grandma. Together we waited breathlessly in the darkness for the front door to open. Finally it did, and there stood Bobby.

Fifty years haven't dimmed the thrill of those moments spent shivering, beside my Grandma, in Bobby Decker's bushes.

That night, I realized that those awful rumors about Santa Claus were just what Grandma said they were: ridiculous. Santa was alive and well, and we were on his team.

I still have the Bible, with the coat tag tucked inside: $19..95.

May you always have LOVE to share..

HEALTH to spare and..

FRIENDS that care...

And may you always believe in the magic of SANTA CLAUS!

Give back - what you can, where you can, whenever you can.

Womble,

Guess it is up to the individual. This was just a story shared with me, and to be truthful, this made me think of the lessons my mother taught me as a child and an adult. I lost her a few years back, but this little story made me remember so much. Why I wanted to share.

Thank you for reading, sorry it seems wrong to you, but to me, it brought my mother back to me for that moment.

It's not that it seems wrong to me. I can take or leave Xmas, it just annoys me most of the time leading up it (ie from october). Gives me quite a scrooge like attitude towards it. But this story really is lovely, the Granny, the child and the cashier who on a whim joined the "conspiricy".
It's the best story about the true meaning of Xmas I've heard.
Coming from a cynical old git like me thats saying alot.
(((((((((HUGS ALL)))))))))

WOMBLE :P

I'm still gonna say BAH HUMBUG to everyone who wishes me a merry Xmas though.

A warm hug then to the cynical old git you claim to be :). How's that?

Agree with the stores and commercials all starting in September/October with advertising and such. Takes away from the meaning of what Christmas really is, you don't 'sell Christmas', you remember the true meaning of it all.

In my small town, the local Police Department does a program (not calling it a charity drive for I hate for it to be describe as that). Called "Shop-With-A-Cop". People donate money, the money in turn is spent with and on children that don't have a lot. The local Wal Mart store steps in with discounts and the children gets coats, shoes, clothing and yes even a toy or two.

It happened this past Saturday, just before the holiday. To see those faces, well if that doesn't melt the heart I don't know what does. My goal for next year will be to put up at least $5 per week for that cause. I now have $10 in the envelope and by the time it comes about again there will be a $250 donation, at least that much, if not more.

Oh yes, the local police DO meet up with the children and they actually help them shop. Now is that not the best thing?

Now to you :), I will say I hope the holidays will be enjoyable for you. That good memories and thoughts will be with you. Sending you the best thoughts and hugs I can.

As a little girl, we didn't have a tv in every house. Those that did, didn't have color. It was rare and very expensive. I wish I could say this was a true story... but i can't. I wish it was....

Rudolph's red nose.....

One day at school, I overheard my friends talking about a show on tv called Rudolph the red nosed raindeer. He supposedly had a very shiney nose. Oh how it would glow.... When school was out, I ran home quick as I could. I couldn't wait for daddy to come home from work. Daddy was always working. "Never miss out on a days work come rain or shine" he would say. I must have driven my mother crazy asking what time it was every few seconds. But it finally came. Five o'clock was here! I sat outside on the porch and watched as my daddy came walking down the street carrying his old metal lunch pail. I ran up the street to walk the last few steps by his side. I followed him into the house and waited patiently as he washed his face and lit his cigar. He sat back in his chair and turned on the radio. I remember coming up to him slowly and asking "daddy, can i have a minute please?" He set his cigar down very gently in the tray and leaned forwards with his hands folded across his knees. He looked at me and I could see the years in his face. He said "of course, what is it you need?" "Daddy, I want to see rudolph's red nose". I waited for what seemed like hours. He never spoke. He got up, and went into the kitchen where mom was fixing our dinner. He gave her a kiss and walked out the door. He paused in the doorway and held out his hand to me. I almost cried as we began a long walk up the street. Then i saw where we were going. I remember going into the store with daddy and watching as he went up and down each isle and said "hmmm" next to each set. I was so excited walking home beside my daddy as he carried that tv home. That night, I watched Rudolph the Red Nosed Raindeer on our very own television. The first my family had ever owned. On christmas day, I woke up bright and early. I only had two presents under the tree. A doll and a new dress. But i sat there all day in my new dress and holding my new doll in my lap and watched every christmas holiday special you can imagine on our very own tv. I never noticed that mom and dad didn't have any presents at all that year. But i do remember that day being a rare one filled with smiles and laughter not often heard in my house.
