Progress might have been all right once, but it has gone on too long.

People seem to enjoy things more when they know a lot of other people have been left out of the pleasure.

Here is a quote that means something to me, from the movie called Dark Knight, just thought i'd put it since it's called quote of the day.
Don't talk like one of them, you're not! Even if you'd like to be. To them, you're just a freak, like me. They need you right now. But when they don't, they'll cast you out, like a leper. See, their morals, their code... it's a bad joke. Dropped at the first sign of trouble. They're only as good as the world allows them to be. I'll show you, when the chips are down, these... these civilized people will eat each other. See, I'm not a monster, I'm just ahead of the curve.
---The Joker

A Geeks-Eye View Of Morality...Triggering?
I liked the movie, but I'd have to say that I do disagree with the Joker's quote. ( Although, (((( darklight32 )))) I do appreciate your post and your contributions to this site. Please don't think otherwise. ) However, as a dyed-in-the-wool Guardian-reader I would have to disagree with the Joker's bleak, and rather self-serving view of the human race.
I accept that there are a lot of people in this world that will " hunt with the hounds and run with the fox ", as a very wise person of my acquaintance once put it. And, I've met enough of them to put quite a few dents in my essential optimism re. the human race in general.
However, I do believe that most people do have a conscience. And, I DO know that here ARE people in the world who WILL follow their conscience wherever it takes them. Perhaps not as many as I would like to believe, and, never having been so tested, I'm not sure that I could claim to be one of them. But, I know that they do exist, and have existed, and so I am confident that they will continue to exist. And, that's been enough to get me through many a dark night, ( Pun accidental, I promise!
) And, with that I am content.
And, monsters? I don't believe that they're " Ahead of the curve ", I would tend to believe that they're just monsters. Sorry, if that sounds harsh.
Actually this is a bit of a sore point in the UK at the moment. Someone called Raoul Moat shot his ex-girlfriend, murdered his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend, and shot a police officer, before shooting himself. ( As far as I know there has been no definitive verdict on this case yet, but those seem to be the facts so far, from usually reliable sources. )
Rather nauseatingly, to me and quite a few other people, ( Actually, this is one of the VERY FEW points on which I agree with Prime Minister David Cameron! ), there is now apparently a facebook page hailing him as a " hero " .
Suicidal feelings I can understand, better than I would wish. But, someone who hurts other people like that, that's no " hero " in my book!!!!
Now, (((( Warmie )))) is definitely a role-model!!!!
