Think I, mostly, am back to life

Postby Monty » Mon Oct 26, 2009 4:35 pm

Hi everyone.

I wasn't quite sure which forum group to post this under. Decided that this is my story of the past few months so I'd share.

As my subject line says, I am back to life. The past few months have been very difficult. My elderly mom fell for the third time. Each time it has been worse. This time she fell in the kitchen, didn't tell anyone until the next day when she was in so much pain she couldn't walk.

Took her to the doctor for xrays, and found out that nothing was broken. It has been an uphill battle to make her realize that she has to make some changes to her life in order to be safe.

She has been quite adamant about not using her walker (which is a necessity), and a multitude of other things. The last straw for me was when my brother phoned on Sunday morning and said that mom had gone down the stairs on her own Saturday.

She had promised up and down (for a month) that she realized that the stairs were dangerous. I realize that her cognitive abilities are no longer there. Now I am not sure when I leave if I will find her, at the bottom of the stairs.

Was told I am doing the best that I can and I just need to let things go.

The other thing is that my daughter had a large wedding on Oct 10 in a city about 2 1/2 hours away from where I live.

Must admit that I was petrified and just got more and more scared as the day got closer. Everyone who was there said that it was like a fairytale wedding, and it was. My daughter was stunning and my son-in-law needed to have a kleenex in his pocket because of the tears.

I know that I am retreating from the world. Many years ago I had a severe case of agoraphobia so I know how bad this can get.

Enough on the ball to realize what is happening and am trying to fight back. Knowing that I back to reading the postings on the forum, is a very good sign for me.

Welcome to all those that have joined in the time that I have been away. All the members of the forum are a great bunch of people. Proud to call them my friends.

Hi Monty - you have weathered some tough times lately. I am so glad to read that you are fighting....that is a great sign. It is so hard not to isolate and I wish for you the strength to keep battling this urge. Take good care today.
