Mind Body and Spirit

Even the medical advertising talks about mind body and spirit. I personally do not think we can get very far without acknowledging that there are three components to our being and when one of them is not doing well, the other parts of ourselves start to not do well either.

All a person has to do is look at someone with Alzheimer's , a disease that is restricted to the brain, and before long, see the physical stress and disease process as a secondary result of the disease.

So I'm a big believer in the mind body and spirit aspect to people. Want another more scientific proof? The placebo effect. The placebo effect actually has better results sometimes than the medicine they are giving you. Mindset has a lot to do with getting better or worse.

That being said, I'm hearing from the Catholic Churches a change in their focus of lent. There is a recognition, finally, I think that many people in the western world and other industrialized nations are disconnected from their spiritual selves and as a result the lives of others. So the focus is,
1. Relate one's experiences of fasting or difficult experiences to the realization that for some people this is an every day experience.
2. Do something about it. Just one project, once a year for others.

Turn a fear or a difficulty into a strength. Sounds impossible, but I promise you that it is totally possible when you realize you are not alone and there are others spiritually and emotionally starving as well.

Admitting one's weaknesses is the first step toward changing them. A weakness is based in reality. It can seem not fair that we are not happy, but happiness is not reality, it is a mindset, and we can work to influence our thoughts.
