When I Lay Down

When I lay down in the quietness of the night,
When I lay down filled with such fright,
When I lay down with my eyes filled with tears,
When I lay down feeling like I have lost so many years,
Why can't I just go to sleep?

When I lay down and thoughts start to race,
When I lay down and stare into space,
When I lay down and try not to care,
When I lay down so filled with despair,
Just not certain about things.

When I lay down my dreams are filled with such fear,
When I lay down the memories draw me near,
When I lay down with breaking heart,
When I lay down feeling torn in part,
Never feeling whole.
