Rhiannon.

Rhiannon is my oldest daughter, now 17 years old. She was born at home in our bedroom with no support after being told at 36 weeks that we couldn't have the baby in the birth centre because of a low iron count in the last blood test. Just mum and me so the memory of that birth, of her first entering the world, is still etched in my memory very clearly.

RHIANNON

Beautifully bald you were born,
Your reluctant locks finally transforming,
In the second year of your life,
To outrageously exotic tresses,
That even your namesake Goddess,
Would be proud of.

You were born into my eager hands,
And in that instant my heart stopped,
Only to begin life anew,
As you drew your first breath.

Your smiles and your laughter,
More precious than dragons' gold,
The tears and the mighty screams,
(Almost) always being softened,
By a singing and dancing fool,
Whose biceps grew right along with you.

Up the mountain we trod,
And Lo! Through the woods anon.
Often you would sleep....
And often I would dream, of Brighter days to come;
As on my breast you lay, our hearts beating as one.

All through the years I've watched you grow,
As I watch you now , and will continue on the morrow,
And as we play and sing and laugh and dance,
Through this life I see; the woman inside the girl,
The Princess inside my Daughter;
The Goddess who is Rhiannon Iesha....

I love you dearly, and I always will
