The Creditors: Watch Out
Posted: Fri Mar 19, 2010 3:45 am
Currently, I am a tad distressed because I've had a run-in with the creditors. I forgot to make a payment on this 1 card I have. It was a few days late.
(The thing about it is that there was nothing that said I was late any place when I looked on my account, so I actually thought everything was OK! THEN, BAM! THERE IT WAS: The new *reduced* limit. & I was like, "Hhrrmm??")
Truly, I think that 1 card is cursed. It hasn't been the same since a different company took over that card a few years ago. This is my 2nd error with that card; the 1st involved reward points usage. I've had no other errors whatsoever.
(While the points go toward the balance, you cannot use it as a payment for the month, which I can do with another card I have. I really do love that other card, but it is not as widely accepted.)
Anyway, do you know what the company did? It axed my credit limit by about 33.6%. It sounds harmless, but that actually equals more than 1/2 of the limit. Hhmm, I seriously didn't know it was like that!
WHO DOES THAT?! Apparently, creditors do.
That's okay, though. While they think that they have socked it to me, they have really only socked it to themselves. I always try to aim for the balance of any of my cards to be no more than 1/3 of the limit.
I will most likely only charge small things or $100 or less per year just to keep the card active, in case of an emergency & to stay well under my limit of no more than 1/3, since the company was very nasty--in my opinion--with how the situation was handled. (It will be 1/10 or less now because I really don't have time to be bothered with this sort of crapola.)
They can continue. They will have less business with that attitude. It wasn't anything a simple phone call couldn't have resolved. I had the money set aside to pay on the balance.
Well, I must take it easy for my heart, & that's what I will continue to do to the best of my ability. I am just hoping that it doesn't affect my other cards, where I have never missed a payment, which I am inclined to believe it will.
That's alright, though. If the other card companies wish to penalize me, they can go ahead because I will then only charge a total of $100 or less per year for all of them. If they want to play hardball, I'm ready to roll.
I can simply pay for what I need with cash. While I don't like to walk around with a lot of money on me, it certainly is doable or I could use my debit card more. I can also buy locally more. (I think I found a soapmaker whose soap I'd like to try!
) If I can't get what I want here, I can do without it. It's really pretty easy. There are ways around it all.
In fact, using cash may be better, so I don't have to worry about making payments every month.
I'm not sure there is much I can do to reverse what has happened. Me against a huge credit card company? Oh c'mon, whom do you think will win? With that, I'm going back to bed. I only got up to turn on the computer to download a program & prepare something I want to mail off tomorrow, if all goes well.
I'm too tired to be stressin' about ****.
