Labels are something I get on the regular.
What I wanted to say about it is:
1. Please do not allow people to label you--especially people who don't know you or people who don't know much about you.
2. Please do not allow doctors to label you--especially if they are not thorough, are quick to diagnose you without looking at other factors or will not ever do an investigation into other factors, & don't really look into what could be wrong.
The damage that I find labels have done are as follows:
1. I end up doubting myself.
2. I accept the label--even when I don't believe that it is true.
Please, please do not allow anyone to plant seeds of doubt anywhere on you.
Please have faith in your own ability/abilities.
The point of me writing all this:
1. I really don't want other people to go through that, if possible.
2. Accepting a label--especially when there are few grounds for it--can be detrimental to you.
In the case of psychologists/psychiatrists, please reject their labels, especially if they have not been thorough--told you to get a checkup at least. Get a 2nd opinion & a 3rd & a 4th (etc.), if necessary. Also, show no weakness--one little thing you say & that can be the end for you.
Labels/Labeling

HI ((((((((((((Crystal, Warmie, Brother Ken!))))))))))
I think they see us so little and truthfully know so little about us, they just cookie-cutter diagnoses and carachature us into simplistic slots so they can prescribe from a set range of meds and dismiss us and move on to the next $100-$175 session too often...with so many anti-depressants on the market, you have to wonder how many simply prescribe certain favorites of theirs rather than conducting a thorough analysis as to what might be best for the patient, or even, because the pharmaceutical sales reps are pushing something new and left plenty of samples...
I was forcibly medicated with a drug I had a strong adverse reaction to but finally had to get a lawyer to get them to switch my meds...(there was no need to forcibly medicate me in the first place, they violated my human rights so badly, but that's another story); a therapist later told me the docs seemed to be prescribing that drug for patients whose symptoms didn't even warrant it...then I learned from my sister-in-law who is in medical research, that the company that manufactures the drug got in serious trouble somehow for over-marketing...misrepresenting the drug I guess...
So you are right when you say resist and question labels...human beings are unique and the mind is sooooo complex that it is absurd to try to fit us all into little boxes of diagnoses...but as I told you on the other thread, it is more a matter of CONTROL than TREATMENT too often...

((((((((( everyone ))))))))))))
I had more thoughts about this & what I further wanted to say:
As far as I am concerned....
I really do not see how psychiatrists/psychologists can diagnose you with anything after your 1st 1-hour session. (& I don't see how because I don't know of anyone who can tell an entire life story in 1 hour--whether it's a decades worth, 2 decades worth & so on....)
Thank you for allowing me to express my thoughts & responding.
I think everyone who reads this further understands why I am so against doctors/specialists. They act like they know everything & get annoyed when asked a question or asked a question about which their expertise is limited.
