Good Morning!

Postby CourtneyDawn » Sat Jun 08, 2013 1:14 pm

Good morning!

Just thought I'd sign up for this forum in hopes that I can share my daily struggles and read some supportive words. I hope that I can also support the fellow members on this site.

Yesterday was the first time going to the doctor for my social anxiety and depression in many many years. It was a giant step in the right direction, and I feel good that I went. For once, I feel like people are actually here to help me and not just say "Sorry your sad, go home, feel better". My parents are in denial that anything is wrong with me, but of course, that's their coping mechanism whenever it comes to someone needing help. So, they do not know that I am on medication, nor do they know that I am depressed as I am. Maybe once I am feeling better I'll let them know. I'm still struggling with the fact that I am an adult and can go to the doctor when I need to and not have to tell them about it. Its kind of liberating, now that I've made that choice.

You see, I hide my anxiety and depression really well. Or, at least I think I do. For being 22 years old, I should be over the moon excited for my life - I am engaged to the man of my dreams, I am a home owner, I have a great job and awesome pets. Why shouldn't I be stoked? Well baby, its the depression creeping underneath my skin and it sucks!

I hope that I can find a buddy or two who I can get to know and have someone to talk to -- If you are interested in getting to know me, please let me know. I could really use a friend through my process of healing from depression. :)

Hi CourtneyDawn. Nice to meet you. Welcome to the forum. The thing about depression is it doesn't matter what you have, or even don't have it can happen to anyone. I am glad that you are finally seeking the help you need. Sometimes its hard for parents to admit their child has a problem that they can't magically make go away. But I'm glad you are finding the courage to seek help anyways.
