THIS SAYS IT ALL:

Time passes.....

Life happens.....

Distance separates.....

Children grow up.....

Jobs come and go.....

Love waxes and wanes..

Hearts break.....

Parents die.....

Colleagues forget favors.....

Careers end.....

BUT.....Friends are there, no matter how much time and how many miles are between you.....

A friend is never farther away than needing them can reach.....

When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you have to walk it by yourself, the friends in your life will be on the valley's rim, cheering you on, praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the valley's end.....

Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk beside you....or come in and carry you out.

The world wouldn't be the same without friends, and neither would I.

When we began this adventure called life, we had no idea of the incredible joys or sorrows that lay ahead. Nor did we know how much we would need each other.

Every day, we need each other still.

Curiously, this reminds me of something I once read in a book about Nazi Germany. The author of the book made an interesting point in comparing the leadership of Nazi Germany, the UK and the US. It's one of those things that are so obvious that you don't really think about it until somebody actually says it. As far as the author of this book could determine, Hitler didn't have any friends. ( I know that this sounds rather obvious. Hitler being a genocidal, fascist, serial-aggressor, it's hardly surprising that people tended not to like him! But, even among his fellow genocidal, fascist, serial aggressors, he doesn't seem to have had a single friend, lover, or genuine confidant. Perhaps that is one of the ultimate marks of a genuine monster? Not to have a single person that you trust, like, care about or confide in. )
Winston Churchill and Franklin Delano Roosevelt on the other hand, were famously friendly outgoing men, well-known for their ability to communicate with, and inspire people, by understanding people's feelings themslves. FDR's interest in his many White House visitors is well documented, the importance of his relationship with his wife, Eleanor is indisputable, as is his almost-legendary ability to understand the feelings of the millions of Americans who listened to his " fireside chats ", and were able to draw strength from his ability to share his optimism about America's still-bright future.
And of Winston Churchill, it was once said that: " Friendship, and the love of friends, was the sea in which he swam. " His relationship with his wife was a centrally important part of his life. ( Although, she probably had to be quite firm with him sometimes. He could be a stubborn man! )
Perhaps, our friends are one of the most important things that make us human?
