THE WORLD IS MINE!

Postby Warmsoul/Jeanie13 » Sun Feb 21, 2010 6:01 pm

Today upon a bus I saw a girl with golden hair
I envied her her loveliness and wished I were as fair.
And then I saw her struggle up and hobble down the aisle -
She had one leg and a metal crutch
and a dazzling, friendly smile.
Oh God, forgive me when I whine
I have two legs - THE WORLD IS MINE!

And then I stopped to buy some sweets from
a lad who had such charm,
I stayed to chat a while - If I were late, what harm?
And when I turned to leave, he said,
"Thank you; you've been so kind.
It's nice to talk with folks like you.
You see," he said, "I'm blind."
Oh God, forgive me when I whine
I have two eyes - THE WORLD IS MINE!

Farther on down the street,
I saw a child with eyes so blue -
He stood and watched the others play,
as though puzzled what to do.
I stopped a moment, said,
"Why don't you join the others, dear?"
He looked ahead without a word,
and then I knew he could not hear.

Oh God, forgive my words of woe -
I've eyes to see the sunset glow
And ears to hear what others say
And legs to take me on my way.
Oh God, forgive me when I whine -
How blessed I am - THE WORLD IS MINE!

love it!!!!!!! thanks!!!!!!!!!! good message for depressives like me; sometimes hard to feel grateful when in the dark, but when I can start with something small like dear God thank you I can see, hear, walk, I have a roof over my head, food, heat, running water, medicine to help me, a mother who loves me and does nice things for me, an income, etc. I can really get going...and it helps me cope much better when I have an attitude of gratitude.

I make lists sometimes and get going thinking of more and more things once I get started with the small things, that in the vast scheme of things, are not so small after all...

*hugs* ((((((((((warmie))))))))

So pleased you got something from it. I did as well.

Love the list idea. Start with one 'thank you' or 'grateful' thing and let it grow. Thank you

Take care please

I read through this & am not sure what I felt. It's thought-provoking.

Honestly, I've never been able to understand when "whining" is at all okay. It's negative in every sense of the word.... (I think)

However, if we don't "whine", won't what we have trapped inside kill us at some point because there is no outlet?

I think it is okay to whine--every last one of us--if whining means talking about & through problems to be better off than we were (where we started). (That's part of why this forum exists...?) Maybe what I have in mind is something different than the word whine? (I dah know....) ???

I believe whining is also okay because every last one of us has something to bear--probably even down to the animals. What one person can handle....Another may not be able to deal with at all (just like that), but maybe over time be able to improve.

I've often heard the argument that people are starving, et al, so why are you depressed blah blah blah? Gosh, that leaves out millionaires, billionaires, & people with slightly higher salaries from being depressed. Ridiculous! (as is said in Harry Potter)

OF COURSE, IT'S NOT AN ALL THE TIME SORT OF THING. It's amazing how if something is overdone (excessive), it tends to be a problem & if something is underdone (not enough), it also tends to be a problem... Gotta love balance! (It doesn't seem that you live long or have a good quality of life without it....!)

These are just my random thoughts....

What I really take away from it is to not envy people & not assume that every one has the same abilities.... (walking, seeing, hearing, etc.)

Guess it lies in what a person thinks whining really is.

A child 'whines' when they don't get their way, or a toy, or that extra candy.

Some adults 'whine' when they do have everything and still wants more.

Friends, never whine with each other. They share, they listen, they support, they understand.

That's what I feel.

" Friends never whine with each other. " Definitely, something to think about!
I know that there have been times when my depression has made me difficult, perhaps even unsettling to be with. I like to think that admitting that to myself, and to others, is the first step to making amends for those occasions. ( Hope that doesn't sound hugely pretentious! :?

What I am trying to say, is friends don't consider sharing the bad times, the down times as whining. They consider it being there for each other. As everyone is in here. :)

This came up in a search I did, and I was moved by the title especially to post here again. (I love the original post also.)

The world is, indeed, mine. I just have to go out there and navigate it: perhaps claiming the few parts of it I want as my own....

Warmie, once again, thank you so much for giving me something to ponder on this night. To whine or not to whine..... that's not the question... that's the answer. A friend is true when whine is good. Hmmm... not quite right either. How about this... the world is right when warmie is in our sights because she brings with her a love beyond compare and a mind sharp enough to split a hair. the world is right when warmie is in our sights because her hugs can be felt across space and time and is conforting and warm enough to make butter melt. the world is right when warmie is in our sights because of her wisdom and her heart knows no bounds and just let outsiders speak ill of her and i'll release the hounds.

I don't know what to say.

I know you are a big part of OUR lives and how we ever made it without you is beyond me. You, your wisdom, your words to live on has implanted my heart, soul and mind. Thank you for being you, one of a kind and the honor of calling you a friend lights my day, my surroundings, my heart. Thank you for being YOU...

Warmie
