Wouldn't it be great?

I was in the six item express lane at the store quietly fuming.

Completely ignoring the sign, the woman ahead of me had slipped into the check-out line pushing a cart piled high with groceries.

Imagine my delight when the cashier beckoned the woman to come forward looked into the cart and asked sweetly,

"So which six items would you like to buy?"

Wouldn't it be great if that happened more often?

What an excellent way to handle a touchy situation. I suppose this next story will make it sound like I am bragging but believe me, I am not.

I drove to a city about 15 miles away from where we live to visit a lady whose husband died last November and she has been diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer and given about one year to live. I knew her husband since I was 4 years old.

I was supposed to show up around noon but I got there early and decided to go to a local library. Two young men in their early 30's were talking at the computer next to me. After about half an hour of this talk, that was not stopped by the girls working at the library, I decided to ask politely if the two guys would please keep the noise down a little.

I was told to mind my own business. I said if everybody talked as loud as they were talking, nobody would be able to hear themselves think. I did raise my voice for emphasis. The more confident or arrogant of the two guys began laughing hysterically. I made some comment and he laughed even more.

I then suggested that perhaps he would like to step outside and we could see what was so funny. At this, he began laughing even more hysterically. I am 74 and he was around 32. His laughter seemed to say that he could tie both hands behind his back and still beat me up.

I challenged him to go outside again and he got up and I followed him. He tried to kick me in the groin to start the fight but I moved inside and thought that I had avoided the kick. In reality, he kicked the side of my left leg, the pain from which I did not feel until about 10 minutes later.

He then tried to punch me in the left side of my face but I either moved aside or he miss judged his punch and only grazed my left cheek. I then hit him squarely in his right cheek and then even more squarely on his left cheek.

By this time, other patrons, perhaps worried about my advanced age, stepped in to break up the fight. He went back inside the library, gathered his things together and left. I went back in and finished the submission that I was making to another website which shall go unnamed and then I left also.

The best part of the story happened when I visited the lady that I mentioned above. She had tried to submit to chemo therapy but could not take the side effects. She then had a number of sessions with radiation. When I entered her home she said that she had been at her Doctor's office the day before and he told her that her cancer was completely gone. HOW ABOUT THAT!!! :o :)
