Perhaps the song is meant to be understood on a deeper level, as a philosophical, existential affirmation of every human being's value and ability to self-actualise in what can often seem a harsh and indifferent universe.
" Jimmy crack corn and no one cares. " No one cares that Jimmy cracks corn. No one appreciates his punctuality, his industriousness in cracking corn, his diligence in making sure the corn is cracked correctly, or the overall importance of the corn cracking process to the US agricultural industry in general, and ultimately to the global market in agricultural goods.
" Jimmy crack corn and no cares. "
Yes, no one cares that Jimmy cracks corn, or perhaps even that Jimmy even exists. However, Jimmy cares that he cracks corn. He cracks corn because cracking corn is important to him. Because he has made an existential decision that the corn cracking process, and the resulting cracked corn are of value, at least to himself. Jimmy has reached a level of existential self-affirmation and autonomy that allows him to crack corn without needing the superficial and facile validation of those who do not appreciate the true value of corn cracking, or of the cracked corn itself
Or, alternatively, this song could be a cautionary tale.
" Jimmy crack corn and no one cares. "
But, is it that simple? Is this simply a case of an overlooked manual-labourer whose work is being viewed with indifference? Or, is it possible that it is not the case that the onlookers of Jimmy cracking corn are, in fact, uncaring? Perhaps those who seem not to care are in fact expressing passive-aggressive disapproval of the whole corn-cracking process.
Afterall, by cracking the corn, is not Jimmy interfering with the natural balance of nature? Should, in fact, the corn be cracked at all? Did Jimmy consider the likely consequences of his actions before he started recklessly cracking corn? What if Jimmy cracked all the corn in the world, and only then, discovered that it was in fact UNCRACKED corn that was essential for some previously unimagined great and noble purpose?
Or, alternatively, it could be a metaphor for the fundamental balance of the universe itself.
" Jimmy crack corn and no one cares. "
The fact that Jimmy cracks corn may make it seem as if the corn is changing from uncracked to cracked. But, in reality the corn remains the same. It's nutritional content is the same. Perhaps in apparent flux, there may still be perceived a certain balance?
Or, alternatively, it could be that I'm reading waaaaay too much into this......?!
