WHO KNEW
When you go to buy bread in the grocery store, have you ever wondered which is the freshest?
So did you "squeeze" for softness to determine freshness?
Did you know that bread is delivered fresh to the stores five days a week?
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Each day has a different colored twist tie.
They are:
M - Blue,
Tu - Green,
Th - Red,
F -White,
S -Yellow.
So if today were Thursday, you would want red twist tie, not white which is Friday's (almost a week old)!
The colors go alphabetically by color Blue - Green - Red - White -Yellow, -- Monday through Saturday

Twist Ties
I did not know that.....Wow. Now what about the ones with the clip rather than a twist????

Dear Heloise: Can you get a list of the colors of bread ties/matching days delivered for the major brands? Hard to tell when the fresh loaves have been delivered. Thanks.

Hmmm. A very interesting question that took a little research. A major bread manufacturer that we contacted said ties are not industry standard. Each bread company differs, depending on the bakery and location. It is best to purchase bread by checking the "best by date" or by the old standby "squeeze test." Remember when squeezing that whole grains and high-fiber breads might not be as pliable due to the density of the wheat.
