I think that this is a very accurate proverb.
I sometimes feel that " Western Civilisation ", is rather too concerned with the " mechanical " aspects of the world. Costs, efficiency, making things faster, making things cheaper, how much, how big, how many...And, sometimes actual human beings, actual human feelings, the " human things " that make people DIFFERENT than things can get left out of the frame almost entirely.
It reminds me of a song by Suzanne Vega, Language, I think it's called...that says:

" Words are too solid
They don't move fast enough
To catch the blur in the brain
That flies by and is gone
Gone
Gone
Gone

With realms underneath
Never touched
Never stirred
Never even moved through
