Food for thought...enjoy

1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.
2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.
3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.
4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.
5. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?
6. Was learning cursive really necessary?
7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on # 5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.
8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.
9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.
10. Bad decisions make good stories.
11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.
12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blu Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again.
13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any changes to.
14. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.
15. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lite than Kay.
16. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
17. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.
18. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said?
19. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!
20. Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.
21. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket and finding their cell phone - but I'd bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time.

# 11 is SOOOO right! ( Sigh! :x :( )
For me this often seems to happen when my employer carefully collates a considerable amount of data, makes a series of precise and intricate calculations, and then comes up with a construct and plan that has NO link to actually reality. ( This is, of course, the fault of reality...! :? :) )
Or, this happens when my employer tries to " motivate " it's staff. ( There are times when I think that perhaps I might be able to cope...If they didn't try to " motivate " me...! )

((((((((((((( TackingIntoTheWind )))))))))))))

Sounds to me that your employer has too much time on their hands. LOL

As Far As I'm Concerned This Day Is Over! ( Triggering? )

Postby TackingIntoTheWind » Sat May 14, 2011 10:34 am

If only it was that simple, (((( Warmie ))))!
My employer, in this case, the British Civil Service, is engaged in a second round of staff-cuts. An exercise which tends to go as follows:

1. Government announces staff cuts of ?,000 in the department,

2. Everyone asks how the *£&*! can all the work still get done with ?,000 less staff?,

3. Department performs study, produces figures that " prove " all the work CAN SO be done with ?,000 less staff,

4. Governments cuts ?,000 staff,

5. Work piles up humongously, due to lack of staff, ( Who could have seen that coming? Yes, I know, sarcasm is the lowest form of wit... )

6. Remaining staff are put under increasing pressure to produce more and more work in less and less time, in order to conceal the scale of the problem...)

And back to Stage 1! :x

We're presently at Stage 3 in the latest round of staff-cuts.
Yesterday, I had what I found to be an extremely uncomfortable " discussion " with my manager about why the amount of work I had completed didn't match the amount of work I should, in theory have completed. I managed to keep a hold on my frustration and despair enough to explain to him why the statistics produced by the work monitoring system don't match the way the work actually is. But, it was a close run thing. The truth is if he knew how close I came to just jacking the job in, going home and taking waaaay more than two paracetamol he might never sleep well again. But, then again, he's rather a stolid, unemotional type so he probably wouldn't understand how I feel anyway. And anyway, picking up the pieces after a workplace suicide would be his problem not mine.
Fortunately, I was " talked in off the window-ledge " by a very supportive friend of mine at work, ( As I told her, she in a very real sense saved my life yesterday! ), and I got to the weekend!
But, # 11 truly is a piece of great and timeless wisdom!

I honestly have been in that position. Like you, I was ready to chuck it all, with my final remark being.

"Do my job for one week, then talk to me!"

I was fortunate to have a Supervisor that did listen. They put their job of the line, defending the lower personal. Amazing, the 'cuts' stopped, and the productivity increased. What an angel this Supervisor was.

Number ten is the record of my life.

10. Bad decisions make good stories.

Got a million of them, LOL.

Thanks, (((( Warmie )))), it does really help to get an outside perspective on this! :)
I feel that I should be handling this better, but I can't think how. I know that there are people out there with WAAAY worse problems than mine. But, there are times when I feel as if I'm trapped " running a race without a finish line " as a workmate of mine describes it.
I can't see a way out of this trap, this isolation. From " their " point of view they ARE " building a better world ", getting the same amount of work out of less and less staff, and so saving a " shedload " of money. So why should they ever stop cutting staff? If I feel as if I'm running faster and faster just to stay where I am, why should " they " care? I'm tired of always feeling like the " weakest link. "
Still, if I am made redundant, it'll give me the chance of a fresh start.
( I may well go back to my job as an " alternative " male-stripper. As an " alternative " stripper, I go on stage naked, and a female audience throw money at me to put my clothes back on as quickly as possible! )

Makes me wonder when they will start 'cutting back' on their levels of employees. Makes more sense to get rid of those that do nothing but give orders out. Surely they can do that with less people, look at the money they will save.

Hang in there dear friend. Now will go ponder your dancing. Hmmmm.....
