Ads/Spam?

Postby crystalgaze » Fri Feb 12, 2010 5:36 pm

Is it me or does it seem like the forum is getting more & more people who join & then post what appears to be spam? (& it's usually from someone who has less than 10 to 25 posts...)

If so, the question also then becomes: Is there a way to combat it? Thanks.

(((((( crystal )))))))))))

We try to moderate as much as possible.

What, in particular, are you referring to? If all right to ask.

Hi there Warmie! I tried to find those posts.... I don't see them any where, so maybe they were removed already.... I'm not sure....

Usually the format is something like they beat depression or are coping with it so much better & will post a web site link (to help us poor souls). The one I saw recently had something regarding .blogspot.com, I think.

The posts always look suspect/non-genuine/like a phishing scam/wants the web site to get hits because (a) the person never usually says anything about himself/herself; (b) it resembles the stuff with TerryTunes or whatever; (c) the person usually doesn't make another post ever or offer support; & (d) it happens usually with a new user who doesn't even have 5 to 10 posts.

It's like the person joined the site, just to post a web site link... It's sometimes a bit annoying. That's all... It almost comes off as rude, too.... It's like going on a McDonalds Forum & a new user comes on to post a link to direct every one to Subway. (No offense to the businesses)

I saw 2 like that recently.

I do believe it was taken care of or rather that those people have not posted again. It's usually something like a counseling services type user name.
