You really should talk to your doctor about what's going on. VyVanse is short-acting, if I recall correctly and really isn't designed as an anti-depressant (despite qualities that do that). It's worth getting checked-out. Would urge you to do it before break is over. Best of luck. Let us know how yo...

Really down day today. Haven't felt like this in a while. And I think I know precisely why: the in-laws are coming for a week. Their retirement home (in one of those stepped-care facilities... they're in a small single family home) re-does the carpet, flooring and paints every ten years. I wish I co...

Held in Place

I feel like I'm being held in place. Expectations need to be met. Money needs to be earned. Kids put through school. Pieces of me die-off. I can feel it. Just like HAL when he lost his computer-mind. "I can feel it. I am afraid..." And I wait. Waiting. I think for my responsibilities to le...

There is a distinction. And I think that's why many people don't get my idea that, for me, I have to "manage" depression, rather than "cure" it. I think most folks on the forum side of this site get that. The chat room side of this site seems to attracted lots of, especially youn...

Getting in with a good counselor is difficult in the US. I've made do with the psychiatrist that I see. I stopped seeing him for regular therapy because he said some things that made me personally uncomfortable. It took me like 5 years to come out and tell him that what he said made me feel uncomfor...

First off.... (((Amy))) big hugs. You'll find this board full of good people that are good listeners. Dear, you and your BF are both battling depression (and in his case bi-pole issues). It seems to me that your issues are feeding off each other, so to speak. I don't see that as sustainable, do you?...

"Meta-cognition." Thoughts about thoughts. And truly, this is the cornerstone of my own mental health work. And I see your point, 100footpole: it is entirely possible to ruminate on what you are thinking about your thinking. But finding and honing that balance is also part of my work. Help...

This will sound weird. Of course, I only speak for myself in this. I believe in reincarnation and in past lives. I believe I have fragments of memories of events from some of those past lives. (That said, I am partially prepared to find out this is all fantasy - I have to remain open to that). There...

My "fantasy" doctor for managing my depression and anxiety would be one who incorporates all aspects - nutrition, spirituality, as well as traditional techniques of talk and cognitive work. I've been with my doc for something like 12 years. He is not a warm and fuzzy guy; MAY have compassi...

I can not pretend to know what your situation has been Specter. However, I do strongly identify with the ideas of being lied to and lying to one's self. You said that things were "mostly" a lie. Perhaps that is the wedge between the life of lies and a new reality. Parley those things into w...

I can understand how you have arrived there, Specter, after reading your background story. I understand how one could come to nihilism after the things you've experienced. I think I can safely say that the majority of the world is not prepared to reinforce your depression. At least not in any intent...
