Agree, and can think of others to cancel, not just the holidays.

Yes, CBT does take a long time to have a true effect on a person. It's taking many years here to turn my thought processes from having a (very) negative tint, to having a more positive element.

I think saying it out loud does help, I have been trying. Thank you for suggesting it.

Yes, cancel other "events" too apart from the holidays! Birthdays too! :)

I voted for Christmas---I LOVE it but it also causes sadness because I wish my parents were here. I have my hubby & son and family we celebrate with but it's like 2 empty chairs to me and I would give anything to have been able to have them hug and kiss their Grandson. I still adore this holiday but it has some sadness mingled in. To me, while we're on the subject---the song "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," is so melancholy it depresses me. It reminds me of celebrating without the ones we love who have passed on and ..."throught the years we all will be together---if the fates allow..." If I listen to that I am just about instantly whacked with sorrow. I have to crank me some Elvis "Blue Christmas" or Burl Ives' "Holly, Jolly Christmas!"
I guess any celebration is tinged with a sorrowful remembrance of those we miss.

I also have trouble on September 11 because of those B@stards and what happened in New York. NY is my home and I remember just standing frozen as I watched those horrible scenes on TV and I could NOT get through on the clogged phones to reach any friends or family in NY and the anxiety and panic I felt was enough to cause a heart attack. I think of the footage of that crime, and the carnage and how those poor people jumped out of windows rather than burn to death. I become overcome with grief. I tried to watch the 1st anniversary remembrance where the families said prayers and recited poems --when it came to the children crying as they read letters to their dead Dads or Moms who were Police/Fire/Rescue workers or victims of the terrorist act, I cried so hard I couldn't watch it anymore. I have a good friend who lost fellow fire fighters and went into such a deep depression he had to be hospitalized. Every year I am so overwhelmingly depressed on this date.

Hugs,
Gloomy2

Finding Christmas to much to deal with anymore. Parents and all my brothers are gone, rest of family, well I am remembered when needed. Visitors arrive when day is almost over.

Wake to an empty house, no ringing phones, cat doesn't talk. Such is life now. Things change so quickly. Don't they?
