Hello all! my name is Dennis and i am 19 years old. I currently live in Portland, Oregon (well sort of) I am in the marine corps so my job moves me around a lot. My problems started when i was a young child. My parents do drugs and that always led to me being there scapegoat. Growing up and even now i found myself scared of people in general and socializing has always been very difficult for me. I deal with major depression and a slew of other issues but my biggest would be my loneliness and lack of friends. I am hoping that this site will help that. Im not good at writing about myself so ill leave it short and sweet if you have any questions just ask and i will entertain!

Hi Dennis and welcome! I do hope this site will help you with your social shyness. There are so many great people on here who are there to listen and advise if you would like. Have you tried the chat room connected to the site as well? Great way to make some connections with people who understand what you're going through. Many potential friends there, Dennis.

So - how do you enjoy the marine corps? Where else have you been stationed?

Dennis,
Glad than you decided to post. That is one of the big first steps you have been able to take in helping yourself get over social shyness. The people here are very kind.

I am better now, but used to be an extreme introvert. I was the one that sat in the corner, by myself. If I was invited to things I always thought of myself as a tag-along, an after thought. I am giving myself a little more credit now and I find that helps me talk a little bit more than I used to.

I hope that you keep coming to the site and reading the posts.

I am going through a difficult time now and know that I am always pleased when I come to the site and find comments from others that I can relate to. I also make sure that I read everyone of the threads that have started, on or around, the time that I began coming here regularly.

I have posted repeatedly that for me I get a big lift when I know that at least someone on this planet is listening to me. Hope you know that people are listening to you.

Hello Dennis!

I am also in the Marine Corps (stationed in Georgia). If you have the right leadership in the Corps, you will find that it truly will change you in sorts. I used to be on the verge of being a hermit, and was actually diagnosed with Schizoid Personality Disorder during my stay in a psych ward.

However, after a year or so, I have become more sociable. I still keep things to myself though.

What MOS and rank are you? I am a 2621 (Signals Intelligence Analyst) with a Secondary MOS of 0121 (Personnel Clerk).

That's great, Dennis! Keep working hard and your dreams will come true. Never stop believing in yourself... Life can be good, Dennis. Please don't lose the faith. How are you doing? How do you like the service?

So far the service has been good to me. I joined out of necessity so i would have preferred to be doing something else...but sometimes you just have to do what you don't want to with the hope that in the long run it will benefit me. My depression and related issues add to the difficulty of it but im working through it all the best i can....hence forth my finding this sight :)

Well Dennis, I do hope this site is helping you! We are all here for similar reasons, and the support and understanding we can offer each other proves helpful and life saving, at times.

And you are right... we all do have to do things that aren't exactly right in the short term in order to gain long term success.

You really are not alone, Dennis. Look at katcho! You already found another military person to talk to - plus the rest of us!

So, what do you think is the next step in helping yourself?
